Stepping Stone Trust

Stepping Stone Trust is one of the largest Community providers of mental health service in the Canterbury Region. We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Registered Nurse at our fast-paced and dynamic Crisis Respite Unit which provides short term bed-based support for people experiencing mental distress and crisis. We provide a homely and supportive environment, so that when they leave, they feel able to face the world again.

The role is best suited for someone who has experience in managing crisis situations, leading a staff team, administering medications, training/completing medication-related tasks, managing referral processes, handling the admission and discharge of respite guests, and possessing experience in psychiatric services.

The following shifts are available: Primarily Sunday and Monday (optional Tuesday), 9:00am - 7:30pm, 20 hours per week.

About the role | Mō Te Tūnga

The Registered Nurses work 10-hour shifts. They are the overall clinical lead on their shift. They are responsible for supervising and advising support staff on site at Crisis Respite and across other SST services. The nurse has responsibility for the oversite of the triage of the intake and exit of the tangata into Crisis Respite and for providing the clinical support to ensure all the health care needs of tāngata are met.

In this role:

  • You will assess and triage referral information to approve referral for admission to Adult Crisis Respite.
  • Engage with tāngata to assess their health and wellbeing needs and provide plans to meet their care needs.
  • You will support and provide direction to unregistered staff and oversee medication management including training of other staff members to administer.
  • As part of the on-call team, you will provide on-call service when on shift, and on a shared roster that includes covering all SST residential houses.
  • Oversee medication management and short-term care plans

About you | Mōu

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a great work ethic and empathetic mindset geared towards helping support tāngata on their mental health journeys.

  • A current valid registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand, preferably with experience in the mental health sector.
  • You have a compassionate and caring nature with good communication skills.
  • The ability to assess crisis situations and decide a course of action quickly.
  • A willingness to commit to and support the bicultural journey that Stepping Stone Trust is on as we live out our partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
  • An intermediate level of computer literacy, able to use online patient managements systems.
  • Knowledge of / experience implementing the Medico Alpaca medication system and online medication administration systems such as Medimap is an advantage.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
