Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
As a Civic Gardener, you will be an integral part of the Places and Open Spaces team, responsible for maintaining and enhancing the Whakatāne District's public spaces. This hands-on role involves a wide range of tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, and general maintenance to ensure our open spaces, parks, and playgrounds are inviting, safe, and well-maintained for the community. You'll also assist with tree work, herbicide applications, small machinery operations, and litter collection. With a strong focus on health and safety, you'll contribute to creating a vibrant and sustainable environment for residents and visitors alike.
Ko wai koe | About you
You will bring the following skills, experience, and attributes to the role:
- A Certificate in Horticulture or equivalent qualification in Amenity Horticulture (NZQA recognised preferred).
- Hands-on experience in amenity horticulture or a strong horticultural background.
- Proficiency in operating small machinery and equipment such as scrub cutters and tractors.
- High attention to detail, excellent time management, and the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform hands-on duties.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-oriented and flexible approach.
- A solution-focused mindset with initiative and a commitment to high-quality outcomes.
- A full, clean driver's license (HT license is an advantage).
