As the Reserves Planning Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the open spaces of the Whakatāne District. Reporting to the Manager of Open Spaces Operations, you will provide strategic and operational leadership in reserves planning. Your key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategies, policies, and bylaws for Council's open spaces while overseeing a Reserves Planner. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is vital as you offer technical and strategic advice, lead community engagement projects, and drive initiatives that enhance our open spaces. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future of our community by ensuring that our parks, reserves, and open spaces are well-planned, sustainable, and culturally responsive.
Ko wai koe | About you
You will bring the following skills, experience, and attributes to the role:
- A degree in Amenity Horticulture, Urban Planning, Recreation Management, or a related field.
- Experience in policy and planning, particularly related to parks, reserves, and urban spaces.
- Strong understanding of the Local Government Act, Reserves Act, and RMA (Resource Management Act).
- High attention to detail with excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Solution-focused mindset, showing initiative and inspiring commitment to outcomes.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to analyse information and act with sound judgment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, with the confidence to influence decisions and foster relationships.
