Building Compliance Officer

Council is seeking an experienced Building Compliance Officer to deliver effective, efficient and responsive services to building owners and Independent Qualified Persons (IQP's) in maintaining building safety.

The Building Control team is solutions-focussed, ensuring that a performance based regulatory system is in place and maintained to ensure that buildings are safe, healthy, durable and sustainable. No two days are ever the same and you will need to be flexible as there will be a mix of onsite and office work where required.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the building sector as the role will be the guardian of New Zealand's building stock, advising and interpreting the laws and standards that control the safety features and amenity of commercial buildings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assessing Compliance Schedule and Building Warrants of Fitness applications to ensure specified systems within any building that is being erected or altered meet the requirements of the Building Act 2004.
  • Undertake building audits to ensure that any building being erected or altered meets the requirements of the Building Act 2004.
  • Assist with ensuring all Building Warrants of Fitness and Compliance Schedules comply with the Building Act 2004 and that the inspection and maintenance procedures by IQP's meet the requirements.

About you:

  • Experienced in a building compliance role or construction/project management/maintenance experience in commercial building work.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building codes, regulations, fire safety legislation and associated building trades.
  • Able to engage tactfully and positively with a wide range of people
  • Can work under pressure, assess priorities and met set deadlines.
  • Has a systematic mind-set with excellent record keeping skills.
