Technical Support Officer

About the Role

As our next Bylaw Compliance Technical Support Officer, you'll play a vital role in keeping things running smoothly. You'll be at the heart of bylaw compliance, providing technical support that helps ensure our community stays informed and compliant. Working alongside our Compliance Officers, you'll tackle complaints and non-compliance issues, manage detailed records, and share your expertise to help customers navigate the rules and regulations that affect them.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing technical guidance: Communicate bylaws, legislation, and policies to customers, ensuring compliance.
  • Managing compliance issues: Handle complaints, assess evidence, and take appropriate action, including issuing infringement notices.
  • Maintaining records: Update and manage compliance databases for accurate reporting.
  • Assisting with inspections and reporting: Prepare files for scheduled inspections and contribute to regular reporting.
  • Supporting service delivery & financials: Assist with administrative tasks, ensure timely customer correspondence, and help manage budgets, purchase orders, and invoicing.

You'll also have the chance to broaden your skills by supporting other Technical Support Officers across different areas, ensuring continuity of service and enhancing your own expertise in alcohol licensing, environmental health, and drainage wastewater bylaws.

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong customer service experience, with a focus on clear and effective communication.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in Local Government administration (or similar administrative roles).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach to managing compliance and resolving issues.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with key legislation such as the Resource Management Act 1991, Local Government Acts, and the Kaipara District Plan.
