Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As the Transport Planner, you will be in a senior engineering position, that is responsible for identification, development and evaluation of projects that improve the safety, accessibility and resilience of our transport system, now and in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of business cases, project development and policy development.
  • Confirm strategic purpose, develop concepts, optioneering and evaluation, to identify recommended programmes of work, and support the implementation through our Capital Projects team.
  • Develop and promote sound solutions to transportation issues, enhancing safety and health, sustainability, resilience, access and economic prosperity.
  • Take a whole of network system design led approach to plan across modes, functions, place and time while taking consideration of the whole of life costs, safety and maintenance in design, and benefit realisation.
  • Undertake economic assessment of transport investment decisions.

You are an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in transport and the local government sector. You excel at Transport Planning, Project Conception and Business Case Development. You build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders and possess the expertise to navigate complex situations. Your attention to detail, proactive problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities ensures we provide a safe and efficient transport system for our community now and into the future.

Ideally you'll have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Civil or NZ Diploma in Engineering Civil
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in civil engineering works, preferably in transport planning.
  • Has experience with:
    • Project identification and development, optioneering and evaluation
    • Developing Business Cases
    • Developing Activity and Asset Management Plans
    • New Zealand Transport Agency policies and procedures
    • Presenting to Councils, boards or decision-making Groups
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships.
  • High attention to detail, excellent time management, and a solution-focused approach.
  • A full, clean current driver's license.
