Animal Control Officer

Our Animal Control Team are expanding to meet the needs of our community. We are currently recruiting for a fulltime Animal Control Officer to work closely with our community to deliver animal control services. Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
This role is responsible for ensuring public safety, with monitoring and enforcement of key legislation, The Dog Control Act 1996, Councils Dog Control Bylaw, and The Impounding act 1955, investigating complaints and addressing non-compliance.
Some of the key tasks for this role include:
- Investigate public complaints relating to dog control and undertaking appropriate enforcement options including written warnings, issuing infringements, and recommending files for prosecution.
- Providing education to the public around responsible dog ownership and educational talks to different community groups and schools.
- Entering all case file notes, and complaint documentation in the Authority database, attaching photographic evidence and witness statements, and linking all related records.
- Assisting other agencies such as Police, Community Groups, SPCA and Welfare Agencies when required.
- Investigating complaints of roaming stock and taking the appropriate action in accordance with standard operating procedures and relevant legislation.
- Pound duties and caring for the animals that come into our care, and the euthanasia of dogs, as required

We will provide the support and professional development; you will provide the skills. To be successful in this role you will be confident managing dogs and stock and experience working in a community based regulatory role would be an advantage. You will have strong time management skills, an ability to form relationships quickly, be solution focused and have the skills to de-escalate situations quickly. You will be computer literate and comfortable working with diverse community groups. You'll have a full current driver's license and the ability to drive a manual vehicle and tow a horse float or trailer. Due to the nature of this role, you will either hold a current firearms license, or be able to obtain one.
