Building Compliance Team Manager

Lead the Way in Building Compliance in Kaipara!

Are you a skilled professional with a strong understanding of the Building Act and a passion for public safety and service? Our Building Compliance team is looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Team Manager to lead our building compliance work across the Kaipara district. You'll oversee activities that support safe, lawful development while guiding a team committed to upholding building standards and supporting community wellbeing.

About the role:

As the Team Manager - Building Compliance, you will:

  • Lead a team responsible for compliance functions under the Building Act and associated legislation.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations relating to notices, inspections, and monitoring, ensuring alignment with MBIE guidance and Council bylaws.
  • Provide technical leadership and training, while mentoring staff to build a high-performing, customer-focused team.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal advisors, customers, and community groups.
  • Identify and escalate risk, prepare significant breach reports, and contribute to continuous improvement across the service.

About You

We're looking for a confident and community-minded leader who brings sound judgment, technical skill, and a strong sense of accountability. You'll have:

  • A relevant tertiary diploma and/or trade certificate, with practical experience in building, plumbing, drainage, or inspection.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in building compliance or monitoring functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Code, and related legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high-performing teams in a compliance or technical environment.
  • A strong customer service ethic, with the ability to communicate clearly, manage conflict, and influence positive outcomes.
