Revenue Officer - Collections

Kaipara District Council

Join a supportive, tight-knit team that values collaboration and community impact!

If you enjoy working with people, have a knack for numbers, and are confident communicating in a range of situations—this could be the role for you. We're looking for a Revenue Collections Officer to play a key role in credit control, customer engagement, and supporting the smooth running of our revenue processes.

  • Permanent, full-time role based in Dargaville with flexibility options
  • A workplace with great team culture and wellbeing initiatives
  • A chance to build specialist knowledge in local government revenue systems

What you'll be doing:

You'll be part of a team that plays an important role in keeping our revenue processes on track—working across credit control, customer communication, and day-to-day tasks that ensure timely and accurate collection.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the collection and recovery of land and water rates, including following up on arrears.
  • Supporting the recovery of regulatory and sundry revenue, including issuing and processing invoices.
  • Negotiating repayment arrangements and enforcing payment in line with Council policies.
  • Liaising with third-party debt collection agencies and assisting with mortgage-related debt processes.
  • Processing direct debits and supporting accurate, timely billing across revenue streams.

What we're looking for:

You are an enthusiastic team player with:

  • 3-5 years similar experience, preferably in a local government setting.
  • Experience with accounting information systems, preferably rating systems.
  • Experience in credit control and accounts receivable.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills alongside a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

What's on offer

At Kaipara District Council, we foster a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking team environment. We also offer:

  • Flexible work arrangements and a range of employee wellbeing initiatives.
  • A commitment to your growth and development, with access to ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • One paid volunteer day per year to give back to the Kaipara community.
  • Staff health insurance, banking, and retail discounts.
  • Free EAP services and a focus on your overall health and wellbeing.
  • 5 weeks of annual leave after 5 years of service.
  • Fruit and espresso in the office.

About us:

At Kaipara District Council, we're more than just a workplace - we're a passionate team committed to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and healthy community where people love to live, work, and play. We're guided by the values of mahi tahi (teamwork), mana (integrity), pono (trust), whakaute (respect), and mahia te mahi (make it happen), which shape everything we do.
