Senior Finance & Risk Administrator

Kaipara District Council

Are you highly organised with a knack for numbers, risk reporting, and financial accuracy?

We're on the lookout for a skilled Senior Finance and Risk Administrator to provide vital support across Council's financial operations—particularly in risk and insurance. From maintaining the risk register to managing journal entries and analysing insurance costs, this role is essential to ensuring our processes are robust, reliable, and well-documented.

  • Join a team where precision meets purpose—and your contributions help support informed decision-making and financial sustainability.
  • Collaborative environment, supportive leadership and a commitment to professional development.
  • Full-time role based in Mangawhai or Dargaville, with flexible work-from-home options available.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be joining a supportive and knowledgeable team that values collaboration and accuracy—working together to strengthen our financial systems, manage risk, and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting monthly, quarterly and annual risk reporting, and help maintain the Council's Risk Register.
  • Managing day-to-day insurance administration, liaising with brokers and internal staff on claims and financial reporting.
  • Assisting with account checks, supplier maintenance, and the setup of general ledger and budget codes.
  • Preparing monthly journal entries, perform reconciliations, and ensure accurate general ledger reporting.
  • Contributing to the Annual Report and provide backup support across the Financial Services Team as needed.

About You

You'll bring a mix of skills and experience that support our financial operations and risk management work. The following experience will help you stand out and make a real impact in the role:

  • At least five years' experience in financial administration roles and/or relevant qualifications.
  • A solid understanding of accounting systems, with experience in system use or implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and contribute to reporting.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, with advanced skills in Excel.
  • A sound understanding of financial processes and systems, ideally within a local government context.

What We Offer

At Kaipara District Council, we foster a supportive, inclusive, and forward-thinking team environment.

In addition, we offer:

  • Competitive salary + benefits + laptop
  • Flexible work arrangements and a range of employee wellbeing initiatives.
  • A commitment to your growth and development, with access to ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • One paid volunteer day per year to give back to the Kaipara community.
  • Staff health insurance, banking, and retail discounts.
  • Free EAP services and a focus on your overall health and wellbeing.
  • 5 weeks of annual leave after 5 years of service.
