We're looking for a Road Safety & Traffic Engineer to help shape a safer, smarter transport network across Kaipara. This is a full-time, permanent role offering variety, autonomy, and the chance to influence real change in our communities.
About the Role
This is a strategic and hands-on engineering role where you'll help shape Kaipara's transport network — improving safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. Working closely with the Asset Management Lead, you'll lead initiatives that enhance service delivery, secure funding, and ensure our transport assets meet the needs of our communities.
In this role, you'll:
- Support the development of infrastructure programmes and funding bids that enhance service delivery across Kaipara
- Lead strategic asset management planning for local roads, including business case development and performance monitoring
- Investigate serious and fatal crashes, conduct crash reduction studies, and deliver road safety projects.
- Provide expert traffic engineering advice across district plans, bylaws, and engineering standards
- Mentor intermediate engineers and support project managers with planning and execution.
What You'll Bring
We're after someone with strong technical skills and a passion for improving road safety.
You'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (BE, MIPENZ, CPEng preferred)
- At least 5 years' experience in road safety or traffic engineering
- Familiarity with NZTA standards, STMS, and Safety Management Systems
- Strong analytical and project support skills
- A full NZ driver licence and the ability to travel across the district
