About the role:
As Project Manager - Corporate Plans & Reports, you'll take the lead in developing, delivering, and continuously improving Selwyn District Council's Long-Term Plan, Annual Plans and Annual Reports. These documents are at the heart of how we set direction, meet statutory obligations, and stay accountable to our community.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the end-to-end development, consultation, audit, and adoption of the Long-Term Plan, Annual Plans, and Annual Reports, ensuring compliance with legislation and audit standards.
- Applying recognised project management methodologies to ensure statutory requirements and timeframes are met.
- Collaborating and coordinating with senior managers, elected members, Audit NZ, stakeholders, and the community to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and issues to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Facilitating lessons-learned reviews and embed improvements into future planning and reporting cycles.
- Contributing to strengthening Council's performance and governance by ensuring continuous improvement and value for money.
About you:
You'll bring a mix of governance experience, project management expertise, and the people skills needed to build trust across a wide range of stakeholders. Ideally, you will offer:
- At least 10 years' experience in project management, with proven ability to manage complex, high-profile projects.
- At least 5 years' experience delivering Long-Term Plans, Annual Plans and/or Annual Reports, ideally in local government.
- A recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP).
- Strong relationship management skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, elected members, Audit NZ and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills — able to translate complexity into clear, actionable insights.
- Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to deliver under pressure and within statutory timeframes.
