Intermediate Systems Engineer

Kaipara District Council is looking for a proactive and technically skilled Intermediate Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of core IT infrastructure and services across the organisation.

As Intermediate Systems Engineer, you will:
- Support and optimise virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Administer Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune)
- Manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure (Fortinet switches and firewalls)
- Maintain MSSQL and MySQL databases, ensuring performance and data integrity
- Implement and monitor cybersecurity protocols and respond to incidents
- Provide Tier 2/3 technical support and contribute to IT projects and improvements
What You'll Bring
- Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related field
- 3-5 years' experience in systems engineering or infrastructure support
- Certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, or cybersecurity (preferred)
Proven experience with:
- Microsoft 365 and Azure administration
- PowerShell scripting and Power BI reporting
- Virtualisation technologies (VMware or Hyper-V)
- Database design and management (MSSQL, MySQL)
- Network configuration and security
- ITIL or similar service management frameworks
