Asset Management Lead

Selwyn District Council

About the role:

As a senior member of the Asset Management Team, the Asset Management Lead ensures that Council's asset management strategies, systems and plans are forward-thinking, community-centered, and aligned with Selwyn's long-term vision for sustainable growth, resilience, and wellbeing.

This role is 30 hours per week, some of the key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Strategic and Technical Leadership, Leading the preparation and periodic review of strategic documents including the Asset Management Strategy, the 30-Year Infrastructure Strategy and Activity Management Plans for all asset groups. Monitoring and reporting on asset performance and condition to inform strategic investment decisions.
  • Driving alignment between Council's Long-Term Plan (LTP), 30-Year Infrastructure Strategy, Development Contributions Policy, Asset Management Strategy and Activity Management Plans (AMPs
  • System and Process Improvement, Leading development and implementation of the Asset Management Improvement Programme
  • Collaboration and Engagement, fostering collaboration across Council departments to embed best practice asset management
  • Compliance and Governance, ensuring asset management practices comply with legislative requirements (including the Local Government Act 2002) and Council policies

About you:

You will have a proven track record of partnering with and leading multi-disciplinary teams including external contractors, consultants, Iwi, landowners and other stakeholders. You will excel at problem solving and have excellent analytical skills.

You will also have:

  • Strong technical skills with at least 15 years' experience in asset management or infrastructure planning, preferably within local government.
  • Proven experience leading the development of asset management strategies, policies, or plans across multiple asset types
  • An ability to write clear and concise written material and verbal presentations that convey technical information in non-technical language
  • Excellent understanding of lifecycle asset management principles and infrastructure investment modelling.
  • Ability to rationalise technical information, think strategically and deliver to required timeframes
