We're now seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join us as a Compliance Officer - Building. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated professional or someone ready to take the next step up in their career to deliver real impact in a regulatory setting.
About the Role
In this role you will monitor and enforce compliance with the Building Act, associated regulations and Council policies. Day-to-day you will:
- Manage the Building Warrant of Fitness (BWoF) system and related compliance schedules, including audit inspections.
- Conduct on-site and desk-based compliance monitoring of buildings with specified systems, earthquake-prone designations, and swimming pools.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to building owners, professionals and internal stakeholders to support regulatory compliance.
- Support continuous improvement of systems, processes and the quality management framework.
- Build positive relationships across Council and with external stakeholders, fostering an education-first approach to regulation.
What You Will Bring
- Tertiary qualification in regulatory compliance, building control, or relevant area (Level 4-6) or significant relevant experience.
- 2-5 years' experience in a building control, compliance, or regulatory environment.
- Sound understanding of the Building Act 2004, the Building Code, and related compliance frameworks.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and able to prepare reports, notices and clearly explain complex legislative/technical matters.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and databases.
- Full New Zealand driver's licence.
- Desirable: experience in document control; local government context; ability to read plans/specifications and explain technical language to customers.
