About the Role - The Compliance Officer - Parking and Bylaws plays a vital role in supporting Council's strategic objectives by ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the district's town centres through the practical implementation of the Parking Control Bylaw. The safety and function of the commercial areas is the key priority for the role. To this end the position also administers relevant sections of the Land Transport Act 1998, Local Government Act 2002 and Council Bylaws that are in place to manage environmental nuisances in public places and road reserves - abandoned vehicles and illegal dumping being the main ones.

Practical implementation is a key consideration, we want compliance to be done with empathy, flexible when needed, and in line with community expectations.

About You - This is a busy role and if you want plenty of variety, this role has it from working outdoors (patrolling time-based parking areas) to desk-based processing of infringements and database management. You are a team player who has a comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation - Local Government Act 1974, Local Government Act 2002, Land Transport Act 1995 and related Council Bylaws. You will have the ability to connect and engage with a wide variety of stakeholders and build effective relationships. Your communication skills will be of a high caliber, and you will provide great customer service in a friendly and efficient manner, focusing on proactive solutions. You will also have experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation and well developed investigative and problem-solving skills.

Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, therefore must have NZ residency or hold a valid NZ work visa. In terms of residence class visa applications, priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.

This is a part-time role, set at 20 hours per week. The salary range for this position is between FTE $29,475 and FTE $32,750 based on the actual hours of work and the appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.
