Library Customer Support
Whangarei District Council
Are you passionate about connecting people with knowledge and creating welcoming spaces for the community? At Whangārei District Council, our libraries are more than just books - they're hubs of learning, culture, and connection. We're looking for someone who loves helping others, thrives in a customer-focused environment, and wants to make a positive impact in our district.
About the role
As a Library Customer Support team member, you'll provide frontline service across our Central and Outreach branches, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all library patrons. Your day-to-day tasks will include assisting customers with check-ins, check-outs, and renewals, supporting computer and photocopying enquiries, shelving and retrieving books, responding to general queries, and handling payments. You'll work collaboratively with colleagues and the public, demonstrating our organisational values of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, and Atawhaitanga. This role is rostered and includes a regular Saturday shift plus one weekday shift.
About you
You're passionate about engaging with people of all ages and cultures; possessing a friendly personality with the ability to intuitively read the needs of customers, pro-actively stepping up and assisting wherever you can. You will possess confidence using ICT systems and have a genuine interest in knowledge and literacy and the role libraries serve within the community. You have a good level of physical fitness and/or are happy to be on your feet for most of the day.
This role will be an exciting opportunity for candidates who are looking for meaningful work in a part-time capacity, or perhaps students who are looking for relevant work experience whilst undertaking their Library Studies... whatever your situation, if you're committed to continuous learning, adding value for our customers, and supporting your colleagues - we'd love to hear from you!
