Community Support Workers - Respite House and Whangarei Community.

CCS Disability Action's vision is to see every disabled person/whānau hauā interwoven into the lives of their whānau and community.

We are the largest pan-disability support and advocacy organisation in New Zealand. Since 1935, we have been at the forefront of service provision, advocacy, and information sharing, working closely with disabled people / whānau hauā and their families across New Zealand.

Join our close-knit team to support children and young people while they have short breaks away from home in our 5-bedroom respite house, Te Whare Taonga. A varied, challenging role which aims to make children's stays safe and fun, while catering to their individual needs and interests.

As a Community Support Worker - Respite, you will:

  • Provide support to disabled children and young people aged 5-17 years and their whanau
  • Help to design engaging activities, according to the needs and interests of individual children, and support them to participate
  • Work in our respite house Te Whare Taonga and also support children and young people to participate in activities in the community
  • Support the day-to-day running of Te Whare Taonga
  • Work to a schedule of rostered shifts which include overnights, weekdays, weekends and school holidays
  • Attend regular team hui and training as required

With the support of the Senior Coordinator and the Respite Coordinator, you'll:

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred assistance that promotes independence, well-being, and connection to the community

Our organisation takes a social, rather than medical approach, supporting disabled people to live their best lives. We are guided by the Enabling Good Lives principles, shifting power and authority back to disabled people and their families, to increase choice and control in their lives.

About you:

We are looking for people who:

  • Enjoy a varied and diverse working environment, working within a team to support people to live their best life
  • Have a diverse range of interests and skills, that can be shared with the team and the people we support
  • Enjoy the energy of children and young people, and understand the current environment as it is experienced by them. Have passion and empathy for their diverse needs and experiences.
  • Strive to grow and develop their skills, to provide high quality support to every person
  • Full training will be provided, however relevant experience, including lived disability experience would be an advantage
