Governance Support & PA to the Mayor
(Waimate District Council | Permanent | 37.5 hours per week )
Waimate District Council
We've had an unexpected vacancy open up — and while there are some pretty big boots to fill, if you're someone who genuinely loves supporting people, stays calm under pressure, and enjoys being the organised engine behind the scenes, this might be your role.
We're on the lookout for a true people person — someone friendly, proactive, detail‑loving and IT‑savvy. If you enjoy variety, helping others succeed, and keeping things running smoothly (with a smile), you'll fit right in.
About the Role
This position combines Governance Support with being the Personal Assistant to the Mayor. No two days are the same — from Council meetings to civic events to the varied and interesting official information requests.
Rather than list every task here, you can find the full detail in the Position Description (PD) — but in short, you'll be:
- Supporting the Mayor with day‑to‑day admin and communication
- Coordinating Council meetings and documentation
- Monitoring compliance with governance-related legislation, policies and procedures
- Managing LGOIMA requests
- Being a trusted, steady go‑to person for all things Governance
What You'll Bring
- A friendly, approachable, people-first attitude
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Confidence with technology and systems
- Organisation, accuracy and a calm, can-do mindset
- The ability to juggle multiple priorities without losing your sense of humour
- Previous council experience is desirable but not required, but you will need to understand what it means to work in a political environment
If you're someone who loves helping others and making things run smoothly, this is your opportunity to shine.
