Transport Operations Manager Roads
Wairoa District Council
Are you an experienced roading professional ready to lead the day-to-day operation of our district's transport network? Wairoa District Council is looking for a capable and motivated Transport Operations Manager to oversee the maintenance, renewal and performance of our roads and transport assets, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient outcomes for our community.
What you'll be doing
In this key leadership role, you'll manage the operational delivery of the district's roading network, including sealed and unsealed roads, bridges, drainage, footpaths, traffic services and street lighting. You'll lead contract management and performance monitoring, coordinate maintenance and capital works programmes, and ensure all projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget. The role also involves managing customer requests, liaising with contractors, consultants and stakeholders, and maintaining strong working relationships with NZTA and the local community. You'll contribute to the development and implementation of the Transport Asset Management Plan and support funding applications, audits and reporting requirements.
What we're looking for
You'll bring strong technical knowledge of roading infrastructure, along with proven experience in transport network maintenance and contract or project management. You're comfortable working with asset data, budgets and reporting systems, and you have a practical, solutions-focused approach to operational challenges. With at least five years' relevant experience and a degree in civil engineering, you'll also have the ability to lead and support a small team, build effective relationships with contractors and stakeholders, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Why join us
This is an opportunity to take on an operational role where your decisions have a visible impact on the safety, resilience and performance of our district's transport network. You'll work alongside a supportive team in a collaborative environment, with the chance to influence long-term asset strategies while delivering practical, on-the-ground results for the community.
If you're ready to take the lead in maintaining and improving essential transport infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
