Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) & Economic Growth Committee
The Whanganui District Council is seeking two Independent Committee Members to bring governance expertise, strategic insight, and commercial experience to its CCO & EG Committee.
About the Role
The Committee oversees Council's investments and identifies new opportunities to generate non-rates revenue, aligned with the Council's Strategy for Whanganui, Investment Policy, and property portfolio documents.
As an Independent Committee Member, you will:
- Define expectations for the commercial and other outcomes expected of each CCO, effectively monitor performance, and ensure risk is managed
- Have intellectual curiosity evidenced by probing inquiry, robust challenge, and a willingness to critically test and scrutinise assumptions.
- Oversee CCO director appointments, remuneration, and performance against KPIs.
- Foster collaboration, build networks, and support Council in achieving its economic growth objectives.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Broad governance experience and a strong understanding of risk management.
- Business, commercial, or company directorship experience.
- Strategic, critical thinking skills with intellectual curiosity and independent judgment.
- Strong relationship-building skills across Council, CCOs, and the wider Whanganui District.
Commitment & Appointment Details
- Paid appointment for an initial period ending October 2028 (triennium).
- Minimum participation includes: six-weekly Committee meetings, and at least one annual workshop.
- A high standard of professionalism, ethical conduct, and dedication of time and energy will be required.
