ICT Librarian - Metadata and Projects

Whangarei District Council

Are you someone who loves making information easy to find, systems easy to use, and technology work smoothly for everyone? At Whangārei District Council, our libraries are evolving into vibrant digital and community spaces — and we're looking for someone who thrives on problem‑solving, improving processes, and supporting others. If you enjoy frontline customer service as well as working behind the scenes to enhance access, maintain quality metadata, and help deliver reliable digital services, this role offers a chance to make a meaningful impact across our district.

About the role

As our ICT Librarian - Metadata and Projects, you'll play a key role in keeping our library systems accurate, accessible, and running smoothly. Your work will help ensure our collections are easy to discover, our digital services operate reliably, and our staff and customers have the support they need to access information with confidence.

In this role, you'll contribute to creating and maintaining high‑quality metadata across a range of platforms, assist with cataloguing, and support ICT, digitisation and indexing projects. You'll also help manage and maintain the Library Management System—running reports, updating settings, and supporting staff with day‑to‑day operational needs. As one of our go‑to people for ICT troubleshooting, you'll provide practical support for library technology, from printers and kiosks to self‑check units and the book sorter.

You'll collaborate closely with colleagues across the Technical team, the ICT - Communications Librarian, and the Heritage Services Librarian, contributing to projects that enhance digital access, improve systems, and strengthen the overall customer experience. You'll also deliver tech help to customers through programmes and one‑to‑one sessions and support other staff to build capability in these areas.

About you

You're detail‑focused, practical, and confident working with library systems and digital tools. You enjoy solving problems, supporting others with technology, and creating accurate metadata that makes information easy to find. Organised and steady under pressure, you manage tasks well and bring sound judgement to your work.

You collaborate easily with colleagues, contribute positively to team projects, and have a strong customer service approach—whether you're assisting staff, troubleshooting ICT issues, or helping customers build digital skills. Like all of our librarians, you'll also assist with frontline customer service shifts, including Saturdays on a rostered basis.

What We Offer

At Whangārei District Council, we're shaping the future of our district. Here's what makes us stand out:
