ICT Librarian - Communications

Whangarei District Council

Are you driven by curiosity, skilled in communication and navigating digital systems, and excited by the idea of helping community access library information and services? At Whangārei District Council, our libraries are evolving into dynamic digital hubs where technology, learning and community connection come together. We're looking for someone who enjoys customer service and problem‑solving, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about using technology to enhance library services and improve the experience of our customers across the district.

About the role

As our ICT Librarian - Communications, you will lead the development and delivery of digital content that promotes library services and strengthens engagement across our district. You'll create and maintain website and social media content that highlights our services, resources, events, and programmes; produce engaging marketing materials; promote our eResources (think eBooks and audiobooks); and ensure all communications are clear, consistent, and aligned with Council brand and accessibility standards.

You'll also support customers by providing tech help through educational programmes and one‑to‑one sessions, while coordinating and training other staff to deliver these services confidently. In addition, you'll work closely with the ICT Librarian - Metadata and Projects to support the maintenance of the Library Management System, and collaborate with our Technical team to ensure the smooth delivery of technical and digital services. Like all of our librarians, you'll also assist with frontline customer service shifts, including Saturdays on a rostered basis.

About you

You're someone who loves communicating in creative and meaningful ways, and you enjoy connecting with people from all walks of life. You have an intuitive sense for how different audiences engage with information, and you use that insight to craft content that is clear, engaging and accessible. Confident across digital platforms, you're comfortable coordinating and updating websites and social media, using communication channels to promote services and strengthen community engagement.

You bring a creative eye for design and an organised approach to delivering high-quality work across multiple projects. You're proactive, collaborative, and enjoy working closely with colleagues to ensure messages are consistent, polished, and on-brand. With strong customer service values, you're also confident providing tech help and supporting others to build digital skills.

What We Offer

At Whangārei District Council, we're shaping the future of our district. Here's what makes us stand out:

  • Impactful Work: Be part of delivering essential services that directly improve community wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work alongside passionate professionals in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
  • Lifestyle Balance: Enjoy the benefits of living in Whangārei —beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, and a relaxed lifestyle—while contributing to meaningful work.
