Community Support Coordinator - Children, Family/Whanau Team

We are the largest pan-disability support and advocacy organisation in New Zealand. Since 1935, we have been at the forefront of service provision, advocacy, and information sharing, working closely with disabled people / whānau hauā and their families across New Zealand.

  • Fixed term (maternity leave cover until 23 December 2026); full time 37.5 hours per week

About the role:

The Community Support Coordinator, a member of Children and Families/ Whanau Team of CCS Disability Action Auckland Branch, has the responsibility to work in partnership with individuals and their families to develop and implement a range of flexible community options which enable them to remain strong and connected to their family and community. All services are developed and delivered in such a way that they reflect our commitment to supported lifestyles and community development and are in line with the organisations' strategic priorities document.

Job-specific information:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and resourceful applicant to join our diverse team in the position of a Community Support Coordinator. This space offers a range of opportunities to work across a diverse network of agencies and state providers, such as local managers at Ministry of Education, Health, Whaikaha, WINZ, Kainga Ora and Oranga Tamariki to name a few.

As a Community Support Coordinator, you will:

  • Have good community networks
  • Have experience in the social sector
  • Understanding of the disability sector and ability to relate to people with disabilities in a positive affirming manner
  • You have an understanding of and are committed to the rights of people with disabilities

With the support of our organisation, you'll:

  • Work as part of a team of Community Support Coordinators and Children, Family/Whanau Service Manager
  • Work in partnership with whānau/families to develop and implement a range of flexible community options which enable them to remain strong and connected to their family and community

Our organisation takes a social, rather than medical approach, supporting disabled people to live their best lives. We are guided by the Enabling Good Lives principles, shifting power and authority back to disabled people and their families, to increase choice and control in their lives.

About you:

  • Have 2-3 years minimum experience of working together effectively with children, young adults and whanau to achieve agreed outcomes - in a coordination related capacity. This role is not for someone looking to be a support worker
  • Have excellent skills in developing and maintaining trusting and accountable relationships with staff
  • Have an interest and experience in care and protection work
