Manager - Building Control

We are on the lookout for an experienced and people‑focused leader to head our Building Control team. This is a pivotal role where your expertise will help ensure safe buildings, strong compliance, and great outcomes for our community.

As Manager - Building Control, you'll guide a skilled team responsible for building inspections, consents, approvals, compliance, and property assessments. You'll also ensure our Building Consent Authority (BCA) systems meet accreditation standards.
You'll also be responsible for:
- Fostering a positive, high‑performing team culture grounded in our organisational tikanga
- Providing sound legislative advice and support informed decision‑making across Council
- Collaborating with teams across the organisation to resolve issues
- Guiding the team confidently through sector changes, including upcoming Building Act amendments
What we're looking for:
This role is suited to someone who leads with clarity, communicates with influence, and builds strong, trusted relationships.
You will need to bring:
- Proven leadership experience in a regulatory or consenting environment
- Knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code, and related legislation
- Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder engagement skills
- Excellent ability to assess and proactively manage risk
- The ability to deliver pragmatic, well‑reasoned solutions within regulatory frameworks
