About the role:
As a key member of the Finance Team, the Finance Business Partner plays a strategic role in supporting organisational performance.
You will provide high-quality financial analysis, strategic advice, and business partnering across Council to enable effective financial management and evidence-based decision making.
You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, bridging finance, business operations, and organisational strategy to ensure alignment and strong financial outcomes.

Key responsibilities:
- Act as the primary finance lead for assigned business units, partnering closely with Heads of Department and Executive Directors
- Provide strategic financial advice supporting organisational priorities, long-term planning, and sustainable financial management
- Deliver advanced data-driven insights, scenario analysis, and forecasting to support strategic and operational decision making
- Support operational and strategic decisions by translating financial data into clear, actionable insights
- Partner with cost centre managers to strengthen financial capability, drive accountability, and support evidence-based decision making
- Provide challenge, guidance, and coaching to leaders to improve performance and strategic outcomes
- Oversee financial performance, budgets, and forecasts for assigned business units
- Lead preparation of annual cost centre budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders
- Contribute to Annual Plan and Long-Term Plan processes through strategic financial analysis and insight
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances, risks, and corrective actions
- Prepare high-quality financial reports for Council, Executive Leadership Team, and business areas
- Prepare journals, accruals, and corrections as part of monthly accounting processes
- Deliver monthly reporting, forecasting, variance commentary, and trend analysis
- Support financial systems, reporting, and process improvement initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting frameworks, and internal controls
- Complete financial projects and other duties within the scope of the role as required
About you:
You are a confident and commercially astute finance professional who thrives in a business partnering environment. You enjoy working with senior stakeholders, providing constructive challenge, and turning complex financial information into meaningful insights.
You will bring:
- Experience in a large or complex organisation with multiple stakeholders
- Strong management accounting, financial analysis, and modelling capability
- Advanced Excel and spreadsheeting skills
- Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and integrity
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively as part of a team
- Confidence to influence, challenge, and support decision-making
