About the role
Our recreation facilities across Selwyn support a wide range of sport and wellbeing activities for all ages and stages. We are looking for a passionate and experienced Group Fitness Instructor with a focus on Yoga to join our team, initially 2 classes per week.
In this role, you will prepare and deliver high-quality Yoga classes in a professional, engaging, and inclusive manner. You'll create a welcoming environment that supports participants of all abilities, promotes safe practice, and encourages repeat attendance. You will play an important role in enhancing the physical and mental wellbeing of our community through quality group fitness delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver structured, safe, and engaging Yoga and group fitness classes as rostered
- Cater for participants of varying fitness levels, abilities, and experience
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating class environment
- Build strong relationships with participants and provide excellent customer service
- Ensure classes start on time with equipment prepared and suitable music selected
- Encourage safe behaviour and respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge through regular training and professional development
- Represent Selwyn District Council positively, supporting a strong community reputation
About you
You are an enthusiastic and motivated instructor who is passionate about Yoga and group fitness. You enjoy connecting with people and take pride in delivering high-quality classes that keep participants coming back.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience teaching Yoga and/or group fitness classes (minimum 1 year preferred, but not essential)
- A relevant Yoga and/or group fitness qualification (current and maintained)
- A customer-focused attitude with strong communication skills
- A commitment to providing a safe, healthy, and encouraging environment
- Willingness to regularly upskill and stay current with best practice and industry trends
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain)
