Maintenance Engineer

Apparelmaster ChCh operates a large commercial laundry in Sockburn Christchurch. We supply linen and uniforms across Christchurch and surrounding areas. Our modern facility is full of modern European engineered automated laundry equipment and our production output has seasonal fluctuations dictating wear and tear on the plant. Having a fully operational and efficient plant is crucial to our team and our clients who rely on us to get the laundry done.

This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic skilled Maintenance engineer to be part of our continuous improvement process who can help with the electrical and mechanical preventative maintenance in the plant and improve our equipment and processing capabilities.

A suitable applicant will have a minimum of Engineering Trade Certificate or similar qualification, have proven experience in a maintenance role including checking and identifying machinery maintenance and repair requirements, have strong fitting and welding skills, well organised and eye for detail. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the current engineer being responsible for maintaining a variety of laundry processing machinery and equipment; this includes preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs to minimise downtime and working on improvement projects.

This is a full time permanent position. Normal hours of work would be Monday to Friday starting and finishing times negotiable. Some overtime / weekend work may be required to maintain plant operation. Remuneration that reflects the important nature of this position will be offered to a suitable applicant.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure equipment reliability; both mechanical and electrical, through preventative maintenance routine assessments
  • Ensure all process equipment and auxiliaries are properly maintained
  • Report abnormal equipment condition to Management so that maintenance work can be scheduled
  • Perform troubleshooting and conduct repair or restoration jobs on equipment
  • Assist the Electrical contractor in the plant with some electrical fixtures when needed and as certified
  • Developing and implementing a Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Provide recommendations for equipment upgrade for improved performance or replacement of aged machines
  • Use our online maintenance program to record completed tasks, plan future tasks and manage our parts inventory.

Skills and experience

Preferably a trade qualification in Engineering (/ Mechanical/ Electrical) or equivalent

  • At least 3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiar with schematic and electrical diagrams/illustrations
  • Good experience in electrical preventive maintenance
  • Skilful in using electrical tools and equipment
