Media Advisor

Environment Southland

We're looking for an experienced Media Advisor to join our Communications & Partnerships team and help shape how we tell our stories, respond to issues, and protect the organisation's reputation.

In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring Council stories reach our audiences through the media. You'll work across the organisation to identify, shape and pitch stories, manage media enquiries, and support effective issues and risk management.

  • Proactively plan and deliver media engagement, including media releases, story pitching and media monitoring.
  • Act as a key contact for journalists and media outlets, building and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Manage media enquiries in a timely, accurate and professional way.
  • Support issues and reputational risk management, including advice and support for spokespeople.
  • Contribute to LGOIMA support tasks within the Communications & Partnerships team.

We're looking for someone who brings sound judgement, great writing skills and the ability to turn complex or technical information into clear messages for the public. You'll be a confident communicator who can think ahead, provide trusted advice and can lean on their solid knowledge of journalism and the New Zealand media sector.

You will also understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our partnership with Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku, helping ensure our communication and engagement practices reflect and respect these commitments.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range of $88,290-$93,195
