Mechanical Supervisor

This is a hands-on leadership role where safety, quality, team development, and client satisfaction are at the heart of everything you do. This is a permanent, full-time role based in New Plymouth.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising maintenance, shutdown, and project work across designated sites and workshops. Leading teams of Foremen, Leading Hands, and Tradespeople, you will ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You will work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Coordinators, clients, and site personnel to deliver successful outcomes while maintaining DIALOG Fitzroy's commitment to health, safety, and environmental excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop teams to deliver safe, productive, and high-quality work outcomes.
  • Plan, coordinate, and allocate labour, equipment, and resources to meet project schedules and productivity targets.
  • Monitor project progress, budgets, and performance while maintaining effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work meets customer requirements, quality standards, and industry best practices through regular inspections and audits.
  • Manage reporting, documentation, and workforce performance, while identifying opportunities for training, development, and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 8+ years' experience in heavy engineering, fabrication, mechanical maintenance, construction, or industrial projects (Essential).
  • At least 3 years' experience in a supervisory role leading trade team (Essential).
  • Relevant trade qualification or engineering apprenticeship (Preferred).
  • Strong knowledge in the fabrication of tanks and vessels (Preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication, welding standards, and industrial HSE requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural, vessel, piping, and technical drawings.
  • Experience planning and coordinating labour, equipment, and resources.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multi-skilled teams.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to monitor productivity and project costs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with reporting, timesheets, and project documentation.
  • HSE training or certifications in JHAs, incident investigation, working at heights, confined space entry, or similar (Desirable).
