Are you an experienced Product Owner or IT professional looking for work with purpose?

This is a unique opportunity to combine technology, innovation, and environmental stewardship in a role that directly supports the science behind protecting and managing our region's land, water, air, biodiversity, and natural hazards.

As Product Owner - Environmental Applications, you'll work closely with scientists, data specialists, and technology teams to ensure the digital tools and systems they rely on are effective, user-friendly, and delivering real value. You'll play a pivotal role in transforming ideas into practical solutions, helping our teams make informed decisions and deliver trusted environmental information to our community.

About the role

Based within our Environmental Data & Monitoring team, you'll be the vital link between our environmental science teams and IT delivery partners.

You'll work with stakeholders across a diverse range of environmental disciplines to understand their challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate business needs into well-defined requirements. Managing a structured pipeline of enhancements and priorities, you'll help ensure our applications continue to evolve and meet both current and future needs.

This is a role for someone who enjoys bringing people together, solving complex problems, and turning ideas into outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the capture, analysis, and prioritisation of business requirements
  • Managing and maintaining a structured product backlog and improvement roadmap
  • Collaborating with internal IT teams and external vendors to deliver successful solutions
  • Supporting application enhancements from concept through to implementation
  • Ensuring solutions align with business objectives and user needs
  • Driving continuous improvement across our environmental applications ecosystem
  • Helping improve the accessibility, accuracy, and use of environmental information

About you

You're a natural collaborator who enjoys building relationships and bringing together diverse perspectives to achieve great outcomes.

You can confidently engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ask insightful questions, and translate complex requirements into practical solutions.

You'll bring:

  • Experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Experience gathering, analysing, and documenting requirements
  • Knowledge of backlog management, prioritisation, and structured delivery processes
  • An analytical mindset and a passion for continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery

You may hold a tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Applicants with a science background and significant IT experience are also encouraged to apply.
