Maintenance Operative - Casual Handyperson

About the Role

Working as part of a close-knit team of five and reporting to our Facilities and Maintenance Manager, you'll step in as needed to help keep our village running smoothly, safely, and looking its best for residents, visitors, and staff.

This role is about much more than maintenance. Whether you're repairing equipment, assisting residents, or helping create a safe environment, you'll play an important part in supporting the day-to-day experience of people who call Selwyn Village home.

Key responsibilities:

  • Providing general handyperson services to residents
  • Assisting with the movement of furniture and specialist equipment
  • Caring for indoor and outdoor furnishings and equipment
  • Supporting the upkeep, safety, and presentation of village facilities

Who We're Looking For

This role may suit a retired builder, tradesperson, or experienced handyperson looking for meaningful, casual work in a supportive community environment.

You'll need:

  • Previous maintenance or handyperson experience
  • Full, clean NZ driver's licence (essential)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Computer literacy
  • Friendly, approachable, and respectful, especially when working with older adults
  • Strong communication skills
  • Physically fit and safety-conscious
  • Trade qualification (ideal, but not essential)
