Summer Pool Lifeguards

South Taranaki District Council

Are you looking for a summer role where you can make a real difference in your community? We're looking for mature, responsible, community-minded people to train as pool lifeguards and help keep our pools safe, welcoming and fun this summer.

You'll be based at one of our community pools in Eltham, Kaponga, Rāwhitiroa, Manaia, Pātea or Waverley with our season running from 7 December 2026 to 8 March 2027. While preference will be given to applicants available for the full season, we also welcome applications from people who are available for substantial parts of the season. Please indicate your availability in your application.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. You'll actively supervise swimmers, support safe and enjoyable pool use, complete water testing, help keep the pool and facility clean and work alongside your team to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly. Great communication and a friendly, confident approach will help you succeed.

What you'll bring:

  • The ability to swim 200m in under 6 minutes
  • Confidence in the water, including being able to retrieve an object from the deepest part of the pool and complete other water competencies
  • A positive attitude, reliability and great customer service skills

If you don't already have your Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate, no problem - full training is provided. You'll need to be able to attend the first aid course and lifeguard training at the Hāwera Aquatic Centre on the dates below:
