Information and Technology GIS Assistant

We are seeking a motivated and reliable GIS student to assist our GIS team with short-term projects involving historical data consolidation and reorganisation, metadata creation and correction to feed into a data catalogue, story map creation and other GIS related tasks. This role provides practical experience within a regional council GIS environment and is ideal for a student considering a career in regional councils or GIS.
Key Responsibilities
- Historical data consolidation and reorganisation.
- Metadata creation and correction, reviewing existing metadata and ensuing it complies with the metadata standards.
- Assisting teams with story map creation.
- Assist team with other GIS related tasks.
Skills and Experience
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Good computer skills and willingness to learn new systems.
- Knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ESRI Story maps.
- Knowledge of FME is preferred but not essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a GIS programme.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in GIS or a regional council.

This position is available from November 2026 - February 2027. You are eligible to apply if you are currently enrolled in a tertiary institution or have graduated this year. All Summer Student roles are offered at a rate of $29.90 per hour and a 37.5-hour week.
