Class 5 Driver - General Cartage

Freight Haulage Limited is part of HWR Group, a proudly Southland-based, family-owned business with operations spanning transport, contracting, aggregates, fuel distribution, ready-mixed concrete and other industries.

We are currently seeking an experienced Class 5 Driver to join our General Cartage team based in Invercargill.

This is a hands-on driving role suited to an experienced heavy vehicle operator who understands the importance of working safely, complying with transport regulations and delivering a reliable service to customers.

The position

  • This is a full-time role based in Invercargill, with working hours between 6.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • The hourly rate for this position is $31.00-$33.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

As part of the General Cartage team, you will operate truck and trailer units while ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and NZTA requirements. The role includes completing daily vehicle safety checks, maintaining logbook and work-time requirements and working across customer sites.

To be considered, you will need:

  • A current and valid New Zealand Class 5 Driver Licence
  • Demonstrated experience operating Class 5 heavy vehicles/truck and trailer units
  • Experience working within transport, freight, general cartage or a comparable heavy vehicle environment
  • A sound understanding of NZTA regulations, logbook and work-time requirements
  • The ability to complete required vehicle safety checks
  • The ability to safely manage the physical requirements of the position
  • Good communication, numeracy and record-keeping skills
  • A reliable, safety-focused approach to work
  • The ability to work the required hours between 6.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday

Health and safety is a significant part of the role. Freight Haulage requires drivers to follow company health and safety procedures, report incidents, wear appropriate PPE and comply with its Drug and Alcohol Policy.

You will be an experienced driver who takes pride in doing the job properly. You are comfortable working in a busy transport environment, can manage competing demands, communicate professionally with customers and other industry personnel, and understand that safety comes first.
