Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (40 hours per week), with participation in a one-week-in-four on-call roster (Monday to Sunday).
Reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, you'll help ensure Selwyn Village's buildings, grounds, assets, furnishings, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting an exceptional living environment for residents.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a handyperson maintenance service across allocated village areas
- Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance tasks
- Assist with the movement of furniture and specialist equipment
- Maintain and enhance indoor and outdoor furnishings and village assets
- Coordinate and support property-related projects
- Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors
About you
You're a practical, solutions-focused maintenance professional who enjoys variety and takes pride in a job well done. You'll also bring a genuine appreciation for working within a resident-focused environment.
You'll have:
- Previous experience in a similar maintenance or handyperson role
- Sound knowledge of general building maintenance
- A strong understanding of health and safety practices
- A current Full NZ Driver Licence
- A current First Aid Certificate (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach
- Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake lifting and manual tasks
- A positive, organised, and proactive approach to your work
- The ability to build positive relationships with older people
- Permanent eligibility to work in New Zealand
