Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As our Geospatial Assistant, you'll help keep Council's addressing, parcel, and geospatial information accurate, reliable, and up to date. You'll support Council teams by collecting, maintaining, and verifying geospatial data, and by creating practical location-based products such as maps, reports, and tables.

This role is about more than maintaining records. You'll help produce accurate GIS and cartographic products, support staff with GIS tools including ArcGIS and Geocortex, and look for ways to improve systems, processes, and data quality. If you enjoy detail, problem solving, and helping others access the information they need, you'll thrive in this role.

Ka aha koe | What you'll do

• Maintain street and rural numbering records, parcel information, and related Council data.
• Update, maintain, and verify Council geospatial datasets to support strong data integrity.
• Create accurate GIS maps, cartographic products, reports, and tables that support timely decision-making.
• Support Council staff to use GIS software and corporate datasets with confidence.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of geospatial systems, processes, and ways of working.
• Support emergency management activities and other Council priorities as required.

You'll be someone who enjoys working with detail and takes pride in producing accurate, reliable information. You're curious, organised, customer-focused, and comfortable balancing technical work with responsive support for staff and stakeholders.

Whether you're already working in GIS or an ICT-related field, or you have strong technical capability and are ready to grow your geospatial career, you'll bring initiative, strong time management, and a commitment to excellent service. Knowledge of GIS theory, spatial information processing, geospatial data tools, and cartographic concepts — especially using Esri products — would be advantageous.

Ō pūkenga | What you'll bring to the role

• School Certificate or equivalent, including Maths and English.
• A relevant tertiary qualification would be desirable.
• Experience in GIS, ICT, data management, or a related field.
• Knowledge of GIS applications, spatial information processing, geospatial data tools, and cartographic concepts would be advantageous.
• Excellent customer service focus and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to work independently.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence using other software systems.
