Finance Administrator
Selwyn District Council
We have two permanent, full-time Finance Administrator roles in our Finance team, both based at our Rolleston head office. One sits in the Rates team and one in Accounts Receivable. The work is different and so are the managers, but both roles call for the same kind of person: accurate, organised and good with people.
Finance Administrator - Rates
Reporting to the Rates Team Lead, you'll be helping to ensure rates are assessed accurately and fairly for our community. Rates and bin charges pay for the services people across Selwyn rely on, and every figure you work with lands on someone's bill.
Key responsibilities:
- Administer rates and bin charges, including quarterly invoicing and the annual review of rates and charges
- Process rebates, remissions, write-offs and rates rebate applications
- Keep property records current through ownership changes, sales notices, property splits and the triennial revaluation
- Help ratepayers by phone, email and at the counter, including setting up direct debits and payment plans
Finance Administrator - Accounts Receivable
Reporting to the Financial Services Lead, you'll keep the money owed to the Council coming in accurately and on time, through invoicing, daily banking and following up what's outstanding.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare and issue invoices for Council services, including commercial property leases and venue hire
- Carry out daily banking and cash receipting, reconcile the bank daily, and allocate payments to the right general ledger accounts
- Monitor outstanding accounts, issue statements and negotiate payment arrangements, acting as the escalation point before matters go to an external agency
- Support teams across the Council with their billing, and keep debtor records audit ready
About you:
Both roles suit someone who is accurate, organised and comfortable working to a deadline. You like getting things right the first time, and you can stay calm with a customer who is unhappy about a bill.
You'll bring:
- Experience in a customer focused finance or administration role
- A high level of digital literacy, and confidence using financial systems, databases and Microsoft Office
- Excellent time management, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication, so you can work effectively with customers and teams across the Council
- Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive customer and financial information
- Strong attention to detail, and a commitment to accurate, timely and professional service
For the accounts receivable role, we're also looking for experience in invoicing, debt follow-up and reconciliations.
What we can offer:
- Great work-life balance with flexibility
- Career coaching and development
- Life insurance
- Wellbeing and volunteer leave
- Three additional paid leave days each year
- Two weeks paid Partners Leave
- Sick leave from day one
- Continued KiwiSaver contributions during savings suspension
- Discounts with local and national businesses
